Usually I find the “countdown” kind of song (5.4.3.2.1) rather tedious,

but children love them. Maybe it’s because they can predict what’s coming,

and it’s empowering for them. Anyway, this song is special. It has a

gentle sweetness, especially with Ellen Allard’s lovely voice. And the chorus,

with the lilting “chickadee, chickadee,” is very catchy and children love to sing along.

I use these puppets, but you could make your own, or have the children

act out the parts of the “chickadees.”
