“Pigs in Pajamas”
by Maggie Smith

One of my schools recently had a Pajama Day, and it
was so much fun! The children all looked very cozy and it was
a great day to read “Pigs in Pajamas!”

Penelope Pig is having a sleepover and all her friends
come – in their pajamas, of course! Not only that, but
all the presents, food (including pizza with pickles on
top, which always gets a big “ew!” and a laugh), and games
begin with the letter “P.”

To “musicalize” this funny story, I took the phrase
“pigs in pajamas,” which is repeated, refrain-style,
throughout, and made a little song of it (to the tune of
“Skip to My Lou”):

Pigs in pajamas, oink oink oink,
Pigs in pajamas, oink oink oink,
Pigs in pajamas, oink oink oink,
We’re going to have a party!

This is easy and fun for the children to sing along with.
Who doesn’t like to oink now and then?

If you have time, go through page by page and ask
the children to show you all the “P” words they see –
there are dozens in the very clever illustrations!

For Pajama Day, or any day,  “Pigs in Pajamas” is
a perfect story for preschoolers!
