“Everyone Likes to Jump”

Here’s an easy and improvisational music-and-
movement activity for rainy days, or any day!

Children should be standing in a circle. Jump to
the beat while singing to the tune of “Here We Go
Round the Mulberry Bush”:

Everyone likes to jump, jump, jump,
Everyone likes to jump, jump, jump.
Everyone likes to jump, jump, jump,
And then we like to clap!

(End with a big clap!)

Then try other movements instead of
jumping, like stretching, patting (thighs),
and marching. After that, ask the children
to suggest other movements. You might
hear “throw” (like a football), “kick,” “nod,”
“wiggle” or things you’ve never thought
of doing in a song! One little girl said
“type on the computer!”

Activities like this encourage creative thinking
skills and help children learn to listen to each
other and respect each other’s ideas. And they’re
fun (my top priority)!
