You don’t have to be a chicken to sing and play along with this silly movement song! If you have arms and an imagination, you’re good to go!
Have children stand in a circle. Tell them that in this song, we’re going to flap our “wings” and then clap. This is how it goes:
(Sing to the tune of ‘Polly, Put the Kettle On’)
Flap your wings and clap, clap, clap,
Flap your wings and clap, clap, clap,
Flap your wings and clap, clap, clap,
Then let’s turn around! (Everyone turn around on the last line.)
Now let’s flap our wings again, but this time stomp our feet afterwards:
Flap your wings and stomp, stomp, stomp.
Flap your wings and stomp, stomp, stomp.
Flap your wings and stomp, stomp, stomp.
Then let’s turn around!
What else could we do after we flap our wings? Maybe stretch up high? Roll our arms? Kick our feet? Then ask children if they can think of more ideas for movements. Children love to volunteer their ideas, and it stretches their creative-thinking skills. It also gives them self-confidence to share ideas with the group and then have the group try out their idea – instant positive feedback!
